(More customer reviews)I recently ordered a set of Malouf Fine Linens sheets in the 800 TCEgyptian Cotton Taupe. They are of decent quality but are NOT a true 800 TC (which I wasn't really expecting anyways, given the price).
I have a "true" 700 TC duvet cover that was given as a wedding gift (also in Egyptian cotton). It is so soft I feel like I'm sleeping on a cloud.
These sheets are nice, but I'd say they are probably a 350 TC sheet in reality. If you're feeling cheated...just keep in mind that it is not uncommon at all for manufacturers to exaggerate their thread counts.
The Federal Trade Commission has stated that thread count should be based on threads, not individual strands or plies within a thread.Unfortunately, a surprising number of linen manufacturers continue to base their thread count on individual strands or piles within a thread. This can more than triple the actual thread count.
Do I recommend buying these sheets?Sure...but keep in mind they aren't a true 800 TC sheet if that is what you really want.I've only washed them once, so they still feel a bit stiff to me.Kind of like a table cloth.Even so, the seams are strong and they appear to be well made.I think they'll soften more after a few more washes (like most good sheets do) - at which point I'll be completely satisfied.
BTW, in reality I'd give these sheets four stars for what they are.But I put up three because of themisleading TC.
